C0110 Code: ABS Pump Motor Circuit Failure
The C0110 code means there is a fault in the ABS pump motor or its circuit. The ABS is left disabled until the fault is repaired.

What the C0110 code means
The ABS module (EBCM) controls the anti-lock brakes and, on most modern vehicles, traction control and stability control too. When it detects a fault, it disables those functions and turns on the ABS and stability warning lights. The normal brakes keep working.
When the ABS acts, an electric pump sends brake fluid back into the circuit. The module also runs it for an instant at startup (you hear a short buzz) to test it. If it does not spin, spins slowly or draws abnormal current, the module stores the C0110 code.
The most common cause is a pump motor that has seized from lack of use or moisture, or its high current relay or fuse.
Important: many C and B codes are not generic. The definition on this page is the most widespread one, used by General Motors and most generic scan tools, but on other makes the same number can mean something else. Always confirm the code text with a scan tool that reads the right module (ABS, body or airbag).
If the pump does not spin, a diagnostic trick is to command it with the scan tool while gently tapping the motor housing. If it starts that way, the brushes are worn and the motor is living on borrowed time.
C0110 code symptoms
- ABS and stability control warning lights on.
- The pump buzz is not heard at startup.
Likely causes of the C0110 code
- Seized pump motor from moisture, rust on the brushes or lack of use.
- High current fuse or relay. The pump draws a lot of current at startup, and the fuse or the relay eventually fails.
- Corroded motor connector exposed to water in the engine compartment.
- ABS module. A failure of the internal electronics, which is uncommon.
How to diagnose the C0110 code step by step
- Check the pump fuse.
- Command the pump with the scan tool and see whether it runs.
- Measure the supply at the motor connector.
- Listen for the pump when you start the engine. A short buzz should be heard.
How to fix the C0110 code
- Replace the fuse or the relay.
- Repair or replace the pump motor or the ABS unit.
Technical reference data
- Pump motor current draw: 20 to 40 A at startup.
- These values are approximate. Check the manufacturer data for your vehicle.
Brand-specific notes
Vehicles that sit unused for long periods are more likely to have a seized pump motor.
C0110 on GM
This code is common on GM vehicles with the Kelsey-Hayes EBCM, and on vehicles that spend a lot of time parked.
