U0252 Code: Lost Communication With Front Camera Module
The U0252 code means other modules in the vehicle stopped receiving messages from the front camera module. The usual effect is that the driver assistance features are disabled. The cause is often power, ground, a connector or a weak battery rather than the camera module itself.

What the U0252 code means
The modules in your vehicle trade information constantly over a data network, normally a CAN bus. The front camera module runs the windshield camera used for lane keeping and sign recognition. When the other modules stop receiving its messages for a certain length of time, they store the U0252 code.
Keep in mind that the code is stored by the module that misses the information, not by the one that is failing. That is why it often shows up in several modules at once. The problem can be in the front camera module (no power, no ground or an internal failure), in its connector, or in the network wiring that runs to it.
Typical location: on the windshield, next to the rearview mirror. If that area is exposed to water or was repaired recently, start there.
The diagnostic method, in order: 1) battery and alternator (low voltage is the number one cause of bursts of U codes); 2) the module list on the scan tool, to see which module does not respond; 3) power, fuses and grounds of the module that does not respond; 4) network resistance at the OBD2 connector (about 60 ohms between pins 6 and 14 with the battery disconnected); 5) connectors and wiring at the module, especially in damp areas (under carpets, in doors, in the trunk).
Measuring the CAN network step by step is what separates a quick fix from a week of swapped parts, so follow that order before you buy anything.
U0252 code symptoms
- Warning lights on in the dashboard.
- Driver assistance features are disabled.
- Communication codes in several modules at the same time.
- The fault can come and go (for example, with rain or over bumps).
Likely causes of the U0252 code
- Power or ground to the module. A blown fuse, a corroded ground or a loose power connector.
- Weak battery or low voltage. The modules reset and lose communication.
- Module connector with water or corrosion. Very common on modules mounted in damp areas, including where a leaking windshield seal lets water in.
- Damaged network wiring. CAN high or CAN low cut or shorted.
- Failed front camera module. Only after everything above has been ruled out.
- Poorly installed accessory. Alarms or trackers wired into the network.
How to diagnose the U0252 code step by step
- Measure the battery voltage at rest (12.4 to 12.7 V) and with the engine running (13.5 to 14.7 V).
- Check on the scan tool which modules respond. If the front camera module does not show up, the fault is in it or in its connection.
- Check the fuses and grounds of the module against the wiring diagram.
- Measure the network at the OBD2 connector. About 60 ohms between pins 6 and 14 with the battery disconnected, and roughly 2.5 V on each line with the key on.
- Inspect the module connector for moisture, corrosion and bent pins.
- Measure CAN high and CAN low at the module connector. They should have continuity back to the OBD2 connector.
How to fix the U0252 code
- Repair the power, the ground or the connector of the module.
- Repair the network wiring.
- Replace and program the module if it has failed (it almost always needs programming).
- Clear the codes in all modules and verify the repair.
Technical reference data
- CAN network resistance between OBD2 pins 6 and 14: about 60 ohms.
- CAN high: 2.5 to 3.5 V. CAN low: 1.5 to 2.5 V.
- These are reference values: check the manufacturer data for your vehicle.
Brand-specific notes
After the repair, clear the codes in every module and confirm the U0252 code stays gone. Many of them keep old U codes from when the fault was present. Accessories installed later (alarms, GPS trackers, OBD2 adapters left plugged in permanently) are a frequent cause of network problems.
