P2716 Code: Pressure Control Solenoid D Electrical
The P2716 code means there is an electrical fault in the control circuit of pressure control solenoid D. It can cause harsh shifts, slipping or limp mode. Drive with caution, because the transmission can drop into limp mode.

What the P2716 code means
In automatic transmissions, pressure control solenoids regulate the oil pressure that applies each clutch. The transmission computer drives them with variable current so the shifts feel smooth.
The computer watches the control circuit from its own driver transistor. The P2716 code reports an electrical fault in the control circuit. Before you replace the component, check the fuse, relay, connector and wiring, which are the most common cause.
The solenoids sit inside the transmission, in the valve body. Dirt in the fluid wears them down and makes them stick.
Always start with the simplest things: fuse, relay and connector. Then check supply, ground and signal with the component plugged in (using back probes), and last the continuity of each wire to the computer. Only if all of that is good do you replace the component.
P2716 code symptoms
- Check engine light or another warning light on.
- Harsh shifts, slipping or limp mode.
Likely causes of the P2716 code
- Damaged connector, loose, broken or corroded.
- Fuse or relay blown or faulty.
- Wiring cut or shorted between the component and the computer.
- Failed component: coil, motor or internal electronics.
How to diagnose the P2716 code step by step
- Command the component with the scan tool and check whether it responds.
- Check the fuse and relay. Measure voltage on both sides of the fuse and swap the relay with an identical one.
- Measure the supply at the connector: battery voltage with the key on or when it is commanded.
- Measure the component resistance and compare it with the manual, and check the insulation to ground too.
- Check the control wire: continuity to the computer and no short circuits.
How to fix the P2716 code
- Repair the connector, the wiring or the supply.
- Replace pressure control solenoid D if it does not respond with correct supply and command.
- Clear the codes and verify.
Technical reference data
- Typical pressure solenoid resistance: 3 to 8 ohms.
- Always check the transmission fluid level and condition first.
- Approximate values only: check the manufacturer data for your vehicle.
Brand-specific notes
Because this is an electrical code, the wiring harness and the internal connector are the first suspects. Rule those out before you condemn the solenoid for the P2716 code.
P2716 on Ford
Common on Ford transmissions such as the 6R80 and the 6F35.
P2716 on GM
Common on GM transmissions such as the 6T40 and the 6L80.
P2716 on Hyundai and Kia
Common on Hyundai and Kia, such as the A6 transmission.
P2716 on Nissan and Toyota
Also common on Nissan and Toyota.
