P2047 Code: Reductant Injector Circuit/Open
The P2047 code means an open circuit in the control of the urea (AdBlue or DEF) injector: the component gets no current when it is activated. It can shut the SCR system down and may start a countdown that limits restarting the engine. You can drive for a short time with caution, but get it fixed soon.

What the P2047 code means
Modern diesels cut nitrogen oxides with an SCR catalyst. An injector meters urea (AdBlue or DEF) into the exhaust, and the catalyst uses it to turn the NOx into nitrogen and water. A NOx sensor downstream of the catalyst checks that it works.
The computer watches the control circuit from its own driver transistor. The P2047 code means an open circuit: the component gets no current when it is activated. Before you replace the component, check the fuse, the relay, the connector and the wiring, because they are the most common cause.
The injector sits in the exhaust ahead of the SCR catalyst, where it is exposed to heat and to urea crystals.
Measure the resistance of the component at its connector. If it is infinite, the component is open inside. If it is correct, follow the control wire back to the computer looking for a break, especially in the sections near the exhaust or at intermediate connectors.
The AdBlue and SCR system guide explains the engine start countdown and how to take care of the system.
P2047 code symptoms
- Check engine light or another warning light on.
- The SCR system stops working and a countdown that limits engine restarts may begin.
Likely causes of the P2047 code
- Connector unplugged or with a broken lock.
- Open coil. The resistance reads infinite.
- Wire cut. Check the areas where it rubs.
- Blown fuse, often from an earlier short circuit.
How to diagnose the P2047 code step by step
- Activate the component with the scan tool and check whether it responds.
- Check the fuse and the relay. Measure voltage on both sides of the fuse, and swap the relay with an identical one.
- Measure the supply at the connector. You should see battery voltage with the key on or when it is activated.
- Measure the resistance of the component and compare it with the manual. Check the insulation to ground too.
- Check the control wire. Look for continuity all the way to the computer and for any short circuit.
How to fix the P2047 code
- Repair the connector, the wiring or the power supply.
- Replace the urea (AdBlue) injector if it does not respond with correct power and control.
- Clear the codes and verify.
Technical reference data
- 12 volt supply, with control from the engine computer or from the SCR module.
- These values are only a guide, so look up the manufacturer data for your vehicle.
